UNTITLED (CONE), bronze, paint, 2018

A cone or a safety cone is used to temporarily redirect passer-byers or to warn them for possible danger. This recognisable object is being used every day, everywhere around the world and thus overcomes any language barriers or national borders.

By taking the object and changing its material into highly polished bronze and placing it inside a new context, a gallery space, new questions arise. Does it still have its original function or does it want to warn us about a different matter or a wider subject? With no visible danger in its close surroundings, one can wonder if the subject sits in its reflection. A reflection of the space it sits in or broader in it’s reflection of the world. At the same time its new material has something precious and valuable. Can this also be said about the subject it tries to warn about?
