UNTITLED (PALM), bronze, 2017
A bronze palm tree - a casting of a plastic toy version on a baseplate - seems to be a relic from an undefined future. Continuously plants and species are getting extinct, while at the same time humans colonise more and more nature. The sculpture provokes the assumption that one day the palm tree won’t be there anymore, one of the symbols of our western culture tourism. Instead the only representation of it, is a toy passed on generation by generation.
The work acts as a reference to the fragile balance between culture and nature.
Untitled (Palm) was originally created for Untitled (Oasis), an installation by 88888.
